The veteran BBC Type-2 scanner CMCR 9 formerly LO5/Midland/North 3 will be on public display at the Shrewsbury Steam Rally at Onslow Park next weekend.

Please note that the show is on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday 30th and 31st August 2015, so don’t turn up on the Saturday or you will be disappointed! This will be the last outing of the summer for North 3. The only other outing this year will probably be Salford Quays in October.

The organizer’s website for Onslow Park Steam Rally is :-  http://www.shrewsburysteamrally.co.uk/

As always, it would be great to meet up with some of you there. Come on you Midland folk, this is our farthest south expedition of the year!

The outside broadcast truck, BBC Manchester’s North 3/ Pebble Mill’s original CM1, CMCR9, will be on public display at the Kelsall Steam and Vintage Fair, between Tarvin and Delamere, Cheshire, next weekend 27th and 28th June. Details of the show may be found on their website:  www.kelsallsteamrally.co.uk.

The EMI 2001 and Pye PC80 cameras will be on static display only, owing to severe power limitations. However, pictures will be available from a couple Ikegami HL79s, and most of the scanner will be working (touch wood)!

We will be very pleased to see any friends or former colleagues who can make it there. Kelsall is a super show with lots of attractions.

Here are a couple of rare photos of the former CMCR6, which was briefly the very first BBC Midland colour unit from 1969 to 1972. It had EMI cameras and a decision was made to standardize on EMI cameras in London, so CMCR6 was swapped with CMCR9 which had Pye cameras and C9, then became the Midland Unit in 1972. The photos were taken in this country in about 1994 by Howard Lewis. The American Circus is still touring here, but now they use big new Mack trucks.
