This video is amateur footage from a visit to the BBC Studios at Gosta Green in the mid sixties.

Pete Simpkin added the following information on the Pebble Mill Facebook Group:

“Wonderful to see the old Grams and the Pye Monitors………even the rewinding bench near the TK. What memories. After the TV moved out Radio Birmingham sometimes used the studio for audience attended Classical Music broadcasts. Classical music on Local Radio…now that IS going back some distance!!”

The photos are from the pirate themed ‘Children in Need’ evening from Studio A.  Included are James French, with the pirate hat and hand held camera; Adrian Kelly swinging the crane; and Dave Wilkins squaring up to Keith Schofield!  Lynda Kettle was the pirate set designer.

Radio 1 D.J., Dave Lee Travis, who used to present ‘The Golden Oldie Picture Show’ at Pebble Mill, was arrested and released on bail today as part of Operation YewTree, the Scotland Yard investigation into Jimmy Saville’s offences, on suspicion of sexual offences.

This grab is from the title sequence of the Pebble Mill Midland Region series ‘Look! Hear! – circa 1980. It was a youth orientated show, which combined music, entertainment and fashion items.  It was presented by Toyah Willcox.

Fair Game Costume Sketches

These sketches were drawn by costume designer Janice Rider, for the Pebble Mill drama: ‘Fair Game’, transmitted in 1993.  The sketches are for costumes for ‘Marjorie’ played by Prunella Scales, and ‘Ellie’ played by Lena Headey.  The drama was directed by Alan Dosser, with Carol Parks and Alan Dosser the producers and Michael Wearing the executive producer.
