The photos show shoots for the continuing drama, ‘Doctors’, taking place at the rear, and front entrances to Pebble Mill.

The Pebble Mill building proved ideal in providing multiple locations for ‘Doctors’.  With a little dressing the corridors and exterior could be made to look like a hospital or police station.

The photos include: Kenny Ralston (swinging the boom in the second photo), Tabitha Wady, Natalie J. Robb, Tom Butcher, and Corrine Wickes.

The following comments were left on the Pebble Mill Facebook Group:

Andy Walters: ‘The first picture is of the back of Pebble Mill below the WM production office. The other two are of the front.’

Marie Phillips: ‘My Successor at CIN left after a year or so and I was asked to spend time with the next Co-ordinator to show her the ropes so to speak so I was not up to date with current programmes. On my way to the Photocopy Room one morning a very nice, smart gentleman asked me the way to Doctors. I thought “Oh Dear, he must be feeling poorly” and promptly escorted him to the Surgery to Gina the Nurse. “Oh No” he said, “I’m directing it!” I did feel silly and took him up to the set and I could hear raucous laughter as I sped away !!’

VT Editor, Tim, took these photos just before the auctioning off of equipment in autumn 2004, before Pebble Mill was demolished in 2005.

The first photo shows the main lifts, on the ground floor, at the rear of the building.

The second two photos are of different entrances to Studio A. Studio A had been stripped as a digital studio by this time, although ‘Doctors’ may still have been using it to house sets and film in, along with other locations around the building.

Notice the photo of Warren Clarke from ‘Dalziel and Pascoe’ on the wall in the second photo.

Studio C, Calrec Sound Desk – Peter Poole

Studio C was the Foyer, made famous by ‘Pebble Mill At One’. In the early days of ‘Pebble Mill At One’, Studio C did not have a dedicated Production Gallery.  Studio A or B’s Galleries were used depending on which one was available. About 1982 Studio C had it’s own Gallery built. This enabled much greater use of the Foyer by other programmes. ‘Saturday Night At The Mill’ and ‘Good Morning With Anne And Nick’ were among many programmes to be broadcast from Studio C. In the final years of Pebble Mill the Foyer was used to record the daytime drama ‘Doctors’.

The photos show the Studio C, Calrec Sound Desk, which gave similar facilities to the Studio A desk, and offered more channels than the Studio B desk. It was very well designed for live broadcasting.
