Thanks to Ian Collins for making this titles grab available. This was the first of Ray Mears’ survival programmes, after he had built his reputation on the countryside magazine series, Tracks. Many of the same production team worked on this series, including series producer, Kath Moore.

Here is the link to the Radio Times entry for the first episode of this six part series from Pebble Mill, which was transmitted in spring 1997: http://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/search/0/20?adv=0&q=Ray+Mears+World+of+Survival&media=all&yf=1923&yt=2009&mf=1&mt=12&tf=00%3A00&tt=00%3A00#search

Daily Live was a BBC 1 Daytime show, which went out in autumn 1998, at 10.30am. It was presented by Paul Ross, and included chat, celebrity guests, consumer advice and topical features.

The following comments were left on the Pebble Mill Facebook Page:

Andi Campbell-White: ‘1998 is about right. It was around the same time as The Really Useful Show… possibly between series. A John Daly was one of the reporters… he regularly treated me to large bottles of Jameson whiskey in return for showreels. The programme was rubbish.’

Dave Bushell: ‘I wonder if it’s one of the programmes we did in Studio 1. I had a lighting grid put in there in the late 90s for something which was obviously not memorable!’

Gary Jordan: ‘Tx Date:24/08/1998 Had some good guests on as well: Ben Elton Brian May etc. The annotation says Celebrity chat, guests and topical features, presented by Paul Ross. Plus more entertainment news from Francine Lewis Image courtesy of the BBC Photo Library.’

East was the Asian current affairs series, which went out in the spring/summer during the 1990s on BBC2, whilst Network East, was transmitted in the winter.

Here is the Radio Times copy from the first episode of the 1996 series, transmitted on 3rd April, courtesy of the BBC Genome project:

“Return of the series viewing current events from an Asian perspective. Last among Equals Veteran broadcaster Mark Tully reports on the exploitation, violence and even murder to have struck the second-class Christians of India. As the Christian world prepares to celebrate Easter, the Indian caste system – contravening the Christian teaching that discrimination constitutes sin – condemns millions of Christ’s followers to worship, live and even be buried separately from their high-caste brethren.
Producers Yugesh and Sunandan Wallia; Series producer Mike Finlason” http://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/4d382bf111844264bf42f8f3d0019731

The following comments were left on the Pebble Mill Facebook page:

Ann Haywood: ‘Pity Arthur Haywood is in the great editing suite in the sky, I used to hear so much about the programme.’

Sarah Dunning: ‘Was it Gary Vollans who did the re-design?’

Several Careful Owners was transmitted between 1996 and 2001 on BBC 2, and BBC Choice. There were several series of the motoring programme, which traced the previous owners of different individual iconic cars, to learn the history of particular vehicles.

Directors included Dennis Jarvis, Justine Linnane and Ed Taylor, with Richard Pearson being the series producer. The cars involved included a Rolls Royce, and Hillman Pullman, a Rover 3.5 Coupe, an Austin Healey Frogeye, a Gordon Keeble, and a Dodge Ambulance – all with interesting stories to tell.

The following comments were left on the Pebble Mill Facebook page:

Robin Sunderland (cameraman): “Yes, remember doing a number of these. Very enjoyable. Remember one about a ford capri, which started it’s life as a police traffic car! Always loved the irony of it having ‘careful owners’ !!”

Andrew Chorlton (soundman): “I recorded most if not all of them. Robin Sunderland on camera too.”
