Area 5, was one of the studios used by Radio WM. The sign dates from after the 1999 studio refit.

Thanks to Tony Wadsworth for sharing this photo, and to Gareth Jones for adding the date.

The following comment was added on the Pebble Mill Facebook page:

Pete Simpkin: ‘Certainly were not there in my day although the ban was in force without the signs….l left in 1988. Wish they had been there as it would have avoided an altercation l had with the late Lord Lichfield who l had to stop from lighting up just before we began a live interview. I had to explain that if he did begin smoking l would have to delay the interview and play music whilst l asked higher authority to come to the studio to help me enforce the no smoking ban which was already in operation. The interview turned out to be of less duration than planned with short, terse answers and his Lordship getting up and noisily leaving the studio whilst l was attempting to go through the usual courtesy of thanking him for coming in to talk about his book of lovely photographs!’

The Good Food Show went out on BBC 1 at 7pm in spring and summer 1995/6. There were 15 episodes in all. The food magazine show was presented by Juliet Morris and Will Hanrahan, with journalist, Pete McCarthy adding witty insights. The show included simple recipes, as well as consumer investigations.

Here is the link to the Radio Times entry for the first ‘appetiser’ episode of the series, from the BBC Genome project: http://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/a0e06a2b4e3849a1a40d0c590687554c.

Sadly I have to let you all know of the passing last week of Angela Profit, nee Horsman.
Angela’s husband John has sent the following email with details of her funeral:-

Angie’s funeral will be held at Knowle Parish Church on Friday, May 8th

at 1-30pm.

Flowers will be from family only, but any donations should be for Macmillan Nurses, Solihull or Marie Curie Hospice, Solihull, c/o

Thomas Bragg & Sons, 562 Stratford Rd, Shirley, Solihull B90 4AY.
Angie died peacefully, with her wish to be at home with her 2 sons and me at her side.

The most amazing help came from the team of NHS District Nurses who worked far beyond their call of duty, to ensure Angie was looked after in the very best possible way.

Johnathan, Angie’s son sent the following email to me:-
Thanks again for your support, my mum loved the BBC and having a continued connection post retirement was a joy for her. I know we would love to see as many BBC friends pay their respects at the funeral.
If you missed it the first time here is a link to an article in the Birmingham Post 19th March on Angie. Click to download then you will have to go into your downloads for the page.

This video was recorded on December 11th, 2004 by John Sarson. By this time production had moved to the new BBC Birmingham headquarters at the Mailbox, and the excess equipment had been auctioned off, prior to the building being demolished in 2005. The site is now being redeveloped as a dental hospital.

Thanks to John Sarson, and the VT Oldboys for sharing this video. There is plenty more interesting material on the VT Oldboys website, so do take a look: http://vtoldboys.com/.
