The following comment was left on the Pebble Mill Facebook page:

Gordon Astley: ‘I first met David in the ‘60s when he came into my dad’s petrol station In Hall Green . As I filled up his sports car we got chatting and he told me about the T.O. Course at Wood Norton. That was the start of my 40 year broadcasting career. We met a few times over the years and I only once committed the cardinal sin of calling him ‘Dave’.’

This is an excerpt from an interview with Clare Stride, from a book called Working in Television written in 1980 by Jan Leeming, who worked at Pebble Mill for a time. The aim was to encourage young people to think about careers in television. Clare was working as a research assistant at the time, and later became a producer on The Clothes Show and a series producer on various Daytime shows. I worked with her when she was a producer on Good Morning with Anne and Nick in the early 1990s. She sadly died aged 55 in 2006.

Mike Bloore: ‘The amusing incident bit of this is not quite accurate. Having loaded the wrong tape I went home as I had been in all day and left Tony Rayner to do the TX. It was Tony who had to find the filler item.
I only found out after the weekend and was absolutely mortified!!’

Colin Pierpoint: ‘I believe I was the assistant course manager for Mike’s A course part 1, at Wood Norton in 1970′
